A Director of the Dai Nihon Iaido Renmei is someone what has been nominated by the Federation to participate in decision-making processes that shape the direction of the Federation itself. They are required to attend meetings by the Federation a number of times during the year, with the main meeting being held in May at the Kyoto National Iaido Championships. While there is no specific Dan requirement, most members are expected to be ranked as Kyoshi or higher.
