1st Dan (Shodan) awarded by the Dai Nihon Iaido Renmei. The recipient is expected to have an idea of the fundamentals of iaido practice. The Federation does not stipulate a period of time after starting iaido, but it is typically considered as around two years after commencing.
The patch for 1st Dan is a white base with black writing and a black horizontal stripe.
